Ok, so I took my car to the shop on thursday evening for it's MOT check. Friday morning I get a call it failed. And needed 1100 euros (or about 1650 US$) worth of repairs to have it pass. That's a bit too much money in my eyes. For instance, they were charging 300 euros for changing the rear breakcilinders, which is about an hours work and costs 20 euros in parts. So yeah, we're not going to have it repaired there. Luckily one of my colleagues and his father used to be carmechanics, so instead I brought the car to them on saturday and we fixed all the points on which it failed (well, all but one, because they didn't have the part needed in the store). The hardest thing was welling up a hole in a the rear girder. That took a while, but still not 450 euros worth of while they were charging for it at the auto shop.

The part for the headlight adjusting will come in on tuesday, so on wednesday I am going to make another appointment at the shop to have it tested again. They will probably not like that I fixed it myself (yeah, like that's unexpected at those prices) but it should pass. Maybe I'll take it to another shop instead. Hmmm... I'll have a good think about that.

Last Friday there was a Tom Waits evening in the bar, where I, along with 3 other acts, performed Tom Waits songs all evening. I did four and did some unrehearsed backingvocals to "Hoist That Rag" in the last act, because it was needed. It was a bit of a jamsession, so no one was annoyed :p. On my own I did "Hold On", "The House Where Nobody Lives", "I Hope I Don't Fall In Love With You" and a last minute rendition of "Chocolate Jesus", which I decided to play and learned to, about 2 hours before I actually did.
I got quite a few compliments on my singing, which I think is strange, because in my mind I can't sing for shit. One of the audience members compared my voice to Ray Lamontagne (big compliment in my book). And JK actually wondered why I was passed on singing backingvocals for our band :p

And on a sidenote, why is the internet so slow? Is it because I'm apparently uploading something at about 40kB/s, while I have my torrent program set at 10 (and which is claiming to do). I have a mystery 30kB/s upload stream... doesn't sound good. I might reboot this thing. It's running Windows and has an uptime for over a day. It was bound to happen :p

I spend 3 days sick as a dog on returning from Manchester. Couldn't eat and had a fever. I lived of biscuits, tea and soup for 3 days :)

In better news, my boss had is 40 year anniversary working for the company. He celebrated by taking the day off. He doesn't like being reminded of stuff like that, because it makes him feel old. So everyone at the company send him a card :p He's a good sport though and, while I was in England, gave everyone a letter with 100 euros in it as thank you for the good years. He's a good boss.

My car needs its APK test (Dutch version of MOT). It ends on October 16th.. and luckily the garage had a spot open on.. the 16th. So I won't be driving around uninsured, IF the car (she?, probably) passes. But I've no reason to fear that happening. It's a 13 year old car, with perfect service history and hasn't failed a test yet so far. I like owning a car more than I thought I would and more than I actually like to admit.

I've been driving alot lately, though not in my own car, but in company, or rented, vans. 5 1/2 hours back and forth to Germany twice in as many weeks. Good for overtime though. But not good if the topspeed of the van is 126 kph. That's rather slow for German standards, accelerating from 100 to 120 takes ages. And it means you're basically driving with your foot on the floor the whole time, which is not that good for fuel consumption. We figured out though if you JUST keep your foot of the floor, so it won't go into the rev limiter, you save about 30 liters of fuel on a one way trip. It might take you 20 minutes longer to get there, but that doesn't really matter that much if you're going to spend the night in a hotel there anyway.

Tomorrow morning is once again a 5 AM morning for me. so I should really go to bed. But am actually going to watch TV and wait for comments. :p

15 minutes delay at Manchester Airport. Luckily I have free wifi and a fully charged laptop. Or at least, I had one, as it's already down to 50% after about an hour of laptopping. At least it's not 8 1/2 hours like a flight friday at Amsterdam Schiphol airport. That must suck big time.

Currently sitting in the lounge next to a rather loud TV. But it was the only free comfy chair. I think I know why. I'm starting to go deaf here. Keeping my eyes open for relocating to another empty comfy chair. Right across from me are a woman and her daughter (about 3 years old I guess?) wearing matching Ugg style boots. I don't get the English in that respect. Those are damn ugly (Uggly?) boots, but you see them all over. Luckily they're not wearing matching pink track/sweatsuits with fake tans and peroxided hair.

Back to random surfing and resisting the urge to click on naughty links on sites.

So, back from Greece for a week already and just now do I have time (or actually made time) to sit down and have some me time (apart from going to bed early last night, which consisted of me taking an after dinner nap, which turned into full sleep).

This week I've already done 19 hours overtime.. and more to come tomorrow. Sometimes my job is not as much fun as it should be.. it's more like work!. but then again, if you'd enjoy it, it would be a hobby and not work.

Anyway, Greece was great. Great weather (or wheater, as the Greeks write). 30+ C, no clouds and no trees for shade, because they've been taken down centuries ago by the ancient Greeks for shipbuilding. So no shade... sun - shade = Red TC. But it was not that bad this time. Lots of sun lotion and keeping out of the sun at midday made me slightly tanned actually. Just slightly though.. but for me that's a lot.

I didn't have time yet to go over all the pictures I took, so a proper entry with all the things we did will be up when I have time for it.. which won't be today or tomorrow probably. But you might never know.

Imn the year between my mothers death and him meeting my mother (confusing, I know), my dad had a few girlfriends. As I was quite young in those years, I don't remember that much about those years, save for bit of memories, which are stung together in random order and with random people who may or may not have actually been there at the time.

Anyway, the daughter of one of them contacted me yesterday on Hyves (a Dutch facebook/myspace clone). Ever since I'm feeling rather strange. A flood of memories came over me since, mostly triggered by her memories (she's 3 year older than I am, so she has a clearer memory of the time). I'm remembering things about my childhood which I had forgotten about, I barely slept yesterday (which is not a good thing with overtime and busy workdays), which also explains why I'm posting this at nearly 4AM!)

I'm not sure whether or not to tell my father she contacted me. It will probably be a while before I make up my mind about that. At the moment I say "no", but that might change when I wake up tomorrow morning.

One good thing about this all is I've decided to go back to where I grew up during my holiday when I'm at home for a full week before going to Greece (aaahh bless, holiday, just 4 weeks away!). Something I've been planning to do for years, but have been avoiding for the same number of years.

Anyway, I'm spending the better part of this weekend with my sister and her family as she invited me over a few weeks ago. Sunday evening it's EN second to last day of freedom, as his girlfriend from the Philippines will be living with him from Tuesday on. So drinks are in order. Then it's back to the hell that's called work, just during these few weeks. I actually enjoy working there alot, but with too many people being on holiday it's been a tough couple of weeks so far, with at least two more ahead. After that, most people are returning from their holidays.

I lost a tooth this weekend. More precisely a premolar. I've been having toothaches on and off for a few months now. I've been to the dentist and he said it's because there is not enough room in my lower jaw for all my teeth. I've had one of my premolars pulled out when I was about 14 already to make more room, but apparently it didn't make enough room. He said "take some painkillers and don't worry too much".

So Saturday morning I awoke with the worst toothache yet. So I went to the dentist and he decided to pull it on the spot because there were cracks in the surface of the tooth or something. Twenty minutes later I was outside with a fresh hole in my mouth. So I'm now missing both premolars on the right side of my lower jaw.

but.. the toothache gone! Hurray.

Now to get used to this hole. The dentist doesn't want to put in a false tooth, because this missing molar will probably straighten my front teeth now that they'll have more room (the teeth in my lower jaw are terribly misaligned). So he told me to come back in a month or two to see if the gap closed any.

Also.. work is rough. 41 hours overtime so far.. plus probably at least 9 this week (and with 9 the week after probably), I'll be at almost 60 hours overtime by the end of the week. And that paycheck will come in a week before going on holiday to Greece!
